Data Sources & Attribution

NaviSight is built on public meteorological, oceanographic and hydrographic data. This page lists those sources and the attributions their licences require. It describes where the data comes from, not how it is processed.

Scoring inputs

NaviSight measures environmental exposure — the weather and sea conditions a vessel is forecast to encounter, or did encounter. It does not predict loss.

No insurance claims data is used anywhere in the platform, and no scoring output is derived from claims records. Vessel exposure scores and the comparative fleet analytics built on them are computed from AIS positions and reanalysis weather alone.

The navigation hazard score shown alongside route planning additionally uses published marine casualty statistics from the NTSB, UK MAIB and USCG to calibrate condition-severity curves. Those are public safety records, not claims or policy data. Work is in progress to separate this calibration from the scoring path entirely, so that all scores are computed independently of incident records and incident data is used only for after-the-fact validation.

Navigation disclaimer

NaviSight is a planning aid and is not a navigation system. It is not approved for navigation, does not replace official nautical charts or Notices to Mariners, and must not be used as the sole basis for any navigational decision. Forecast weather is uncertain and degrades with lead time. The master of the vessel remains solely responsible for the safety of the vessel, crew, passengers and cargo, and for compliance with COLREGs and all applicable regulations.
